FSV Hessen Wetzlar: With courage into the regional league despite a 3-0 defeat!
The season started on August 24, 2025 FSV Hessen Wetzlar in the women's regional league. In an exciting opening game, the team, led by coach Milivoj Vujanovic, had to admit defeat against FFC Wacker Munich. Despite the defeat 0-3, after a half-time score of 0-0, Vujanovic was satisfied with the performance of his players. The game attracted around 100 spectators to the stadium, who loudly supported the Wetzlar team.
Wetzlar competed with a thin squad, which increases the challenges for the upcoming games. However, Vujanovic speaks optimistically about new additions that could strengthen the team and provide a breath of fresh air in the upcoming season. The focus will therefore be on the upcoming transfer phase. In the women's regional league, which has been the third highest division in German football since 2004, each team has the opportunity to play against each other twice. The champions of the individual seasons are entitled to promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, if the current regulations, which will apply from the 2025/26 season, are to be believed.
A step towards international understanding
Particularly noteworthy is the recent visit by the selection team China Student Sports Federation (CSSF), who took part in a week-long training camp with Eintracht Frankfurt. This event is intended to promote international understanding and friendship and uses sport as a means to overcome borders. After the reception at the Hotel Bürgerhof, where a group dinner was held, exciting hours through the old town and a visit to the impressive Wetzlar Cathedral followed.
The highlight was a test match against the U21s of FSV Hessen Wetzlar in the Enwag Stadium. This encounter once again underlined the important values of sport: understanding and peace. Sport connects and creates a sense of community that extends far beyond the boundaries of the playing field.
Look at the women's regional league
For the women of FSV Hessen Wetzlar, the path through the regional league is an exciting challenge. The league includes a total of five DFB regional associations, with the Regionalliga West, in which Wetzlar plays, being one of the oldest and most traditional. The structures of this league allow direct promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga for the champions, while the last placed teams are relegated to the fourth division. It remains to be seen how the season will develop for Wetzlar, especially with the new reinforcements in the squad.
The fans and players can only hope that the coming games will be characterized by good performances and perhaps also points. There is a lot of potential in the young team and the support of the supporters will be crucial in the coming weeks.
