Aggressive train driver: hymn to the thrills of the train!
On Saturday, October 11th, an incident on the Cantus train from Bad Hersfeld to Fulda caused a stir among passengers. At around 3:30 p.m., a 39-year-old man from Poland began harassing several travelers and exhibited aggressive behavior. The argument between him and the other passengers quickly escalated, leading to concerned reactions as there was no train attendant present. The passengers then informed the train driver, who alerted the federal police in Fulda and wanted to bring the situation under control.
The man's aggressive behavior led to him punching a fellow passenger several times on the thigh. The injured party was forced to leave the train before it arrived in Fulda. When he arrived in the city, the man was met by federal police officers. The Federal Police Inspectorate in Kassel has now started an investigation into bodily harm and is calling on witnesses and the passenger who got off the train to come forward. Unfortunately, such incidents are not isolated.
A sad trend
As the daily news reports, the numbers of violence and theft in stations and trains have increased in recent years. In 2024, there were already around 10,600 cases of physical assault in German train stations in the first ten months, which represents a worrying increase compared to the previous year. These incidents were particularly common in regional transport, with over 1,400 attacks reported.
Deutsche Bahn has responded to this trend and increased its security staff. Around 6,000 federal police officers and 4,500 Deutsche Bahn security forces are on duty to protect travelers. In addition to the reduction in personnel, the technology has also been improved: over 80 percent of local trains are now equipped with video technology, and Deutsche Bahn invests more than 200 million euros in security measures every year.
Similar incidents
Past incidents underscore the need for these measures. On August 2, 2025, an 18-year-old was involved in an argument in a Metropolexpress shortly before the train station in Esslingen, which resulted in mutual punches and kicks. In this incident, several young men were involved in the aggression, which resulted in minor injuries to an 18-year-old, who was later taken to hospital in an ambulance. The police in Stuttgart have also started investigations here and are calling on witnesses to come forward Press portal.
The ever-increasing incidents of violence and theft in rail transport make it clear that the issue of security is very important to travelers in Germany. As Deutsche Bahn takes new measures, public attention remains essential to ensure a safe travel environment.
