Positive balance: Inclusive health project inspires in Fulda!

Cologne can look back on two years of successful collaboration: the “Health Promotion for People with Disabilities” project has achieved a lot during this time. A cooperation between Antonius, the Fulda University of Applied Sciences and the AOK has succeeded in creating health promotion offers that are tailored to the needs of people with disabilities. A health day was recently held to celebrate the positive results of this project.

The representative of Antonius, Sebastian Bönisch, emphasized that health is much more than just exercise and nutrition. “Community plays a central role,” he emphasized. This insight sums up the aim of the project: health promotion is essential for the participation and quality of life of people with disabilities. This is underlined by the diverse offerings developed as part of the project.

Positive developments and offers

The project managers, Victoria Mateo Hurtado and Madita Bahr, drew a consistently positive assessment of the health day. The focus was on offerings in the areas of nutrition, exercise, relaxation and addiction prevention. These included, among other things, healthy cooking evenings, joint running sessions and relaxing courses. Not only have new friendships developed since the project began, the café now also offers healthy food - a lasting change that promotes the well-being of everyone involved.

The health day itself in particular offered a wealth of information and activities. Visitors were able to enjoy healthy snacks, participate in the smoothie bike and find out about various AOK offers such as the neck check or the stress scale in simple language at information stands.

Future outlook and continuation of measures

Those responsible have big plans for the future. The continuation of health promotion is to be promoted, and there are also plans to open up the offers for the district. The training of health buddies is also on the agenda - an initiative that aims to involve more people in health promotion. Continued cooperation with the AOK and the planning of further health days, which will take place once or twice a year in the future, give reason to hope that the positive developments will continue.

Gerhard Möller, the long-standing chairman of the St. Antonius Community Foundation, was also bid farewell at the celebrations, which once again underlined the importance of the project and its supporters.

At a time when health promotion for people with disabilities is more in focus than ever, this project shows how important and effective the combination of theory and practice can be in health promotion. Figures show that people with disabilities, for example, have a higher risk of illness compared to the general population, making actions like this even more crucial. The implementation of inclusive health strategies, such as those in Key terms are explained is of central importance.

So you can rightly say: Something is happening and Cologne is on the right track!
