Reservist Day in Fulda: Celebrate volunteering for our security!
On August 9, 2025, the eagerly awaited Reservists Day took place on University Square in Fulda. The event, organized by the East Hesse district group in the Association of Reservists of the German Bundeswehr (VdRBw), attracted numerous visitors. The day began at 10 a.m. with a field reception, followed by greetings from reserve staff sergeant Sven Fey and Mayor Dag Wehner (CDU), who underlined the importance of reservists in our society. The exhibition was officially opened at 10:30 a.m., showcasing various military technologies.
With the Ukraine war in mind, the role of reservists has become more important in recent years. Fuldaer Zeitung emphasizes that more than 110,000 members of the reservist association make a valuable contribution to the security of our country. There are numerous opportunities for further training, be it in shooting training, marching training or medical training. Over 3,800 events annually strengthen security policy knowledge and the presence of reservists in the communities.
Technology and support
The audience had the opportunity to experience technical equipment up close, including armored transport vehicles, police motorcycles and rescue drones. Information stands from the Bundeswehr, the fire department and various aid organizations such as the Technical Relief Agency and the rescue dog squad ensured a lively exchange and provided information about the diverse tasks of the reservists.
An important concern of the event was the recognition and appreciation of voluntary commitment, which became particularly clear during the Corona pandemic. Over 15,000 reservists provided support in this crisis situation, which illustrates the operational readiness and flexibility of this force. Their tasks range from supporting active troops to protecting critical infrastructure. Reservistenverband emphasizes that the Bundeswehr is considering calling up reservists even in the current security situation, and many are willing to volunteer.
Future of the reserve
Reservists are not just former soldiers, they are a central pillar of the Bundeswehr strategy. They strengthen commitment and help with the diverse demands of our time. Former soldiers have the opportunity to reapply at any time, which offers financial benefits and access to continuing education programs. Support from the reserves is indispensable, especially in times of crisis, and the Bundeswehr is dependent on the preparedness of its reservists. According to Bundeswehr and more reservists can take part in military exercises at any time and take advantage of the opportunity to get actively involved. This makes the reserve not only important, but also exciting for many who want to secure a place in Germany's security architecture.
The next event of this kind will take place in two years and it remains to be seen how the conditions and challenges will develop by then. Reservists' Day made it clear once again that an important contribution to security is being made here, which affects not only the Bundeswehr, but also society as a whole.
