Severe weather warnings for Hesse: There is a threat of violent thunderstorms and heavy rain!

On June 15, 2025, Hesse expects rather changeable weather, which is mainly characterized by heavy cloud cover. The German Weather Service (DWD) urgently warns of violent thunderstorms and heavy rain, which could also affect the Fulda and East Hesse regions. In these areas, local storms are quite possible, accompanied by showers and heavy rain, such as Fulda newspaper reported.

Particularly violent thunderstorms with heavy rain can occur, and small-grain hail and stormy gusts can also be expected - sometimes even squalls. The maximum temperatures reach between 23 and 27 degrees Celsius, at higher altitudes it is around 22 degrees. The DWD warnings refer, among others, to the districts of Fulda, Main-Kinzig, Vogelsberg and Hersfeld-Rotenburg, although thunderstorm activity may increase slightly in intensity in the afternoon.

Thunderstorms and rain approaching

On Saturday, June 14th, an impressive 61 liters of precipitation per square meter within two hours caused a stir in Bad Lippspringe. The depression Xhevat, responsible for the thunderstorms, is currently moving across the country from west to east. The area between the Thuringian Forest and the Ore Mountains is particularly affected. In the later hours of Saturday, the thunderstorm situation is concentrated in the east of Hesse, with warnings until shortly before 11 p.m. in the affected districts, such as HNA notes.

In northern Hesse, the following districts are on alert until 10 a.m.: Kassel, Werra-Meißner-Kreis, Schwalm-Eder-Kreis and many others. However, there is an all-clear for water protection areas and areas without thunderstorm warnings. On Sunday morning there will still be calm in Kassel, but in the afternoon heavy thunderstorms with heavy rain, which can locally be up to 40 l/m², are expected.

A look into the future

The weather situation will stabilize from Monday night. The DWD then predicts pleasant temperatures between 8 and 30 degrees Celsius for the period between Monday and Wednesday. On June 15th, a heat record of 35.5 degrees was measured in Kitzingen, which shows that the previous days were characterized by great heat. In Hesse itself the temperature exceeded 30 degrees on June 12th.

It is advisable to take the DWD warnings seriously and be prepared for thunderstorms. It is also recommended to regularly follow the current weather reports, especially the warning pages Hesse show to stay informed about possible severe weather situations in the region.
