Freedom for creativity: Discover the workshops in the Industrial Museum!

An exciting event is just around the corner! On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the first tapping at the Siemens Martin Furnace I Brandenburg Industrial Museum from July 14th to 20th, 2025 will be a real attraction for everyone interested. The workshops on the design of casting molds, which have met with great interest, are particularly popular. For this reason, an additional date has been set up for these workshops.

In the workshops, participants can let their creativity run wild and scratch their own motifs into special sand molds. Whether handprints, portraits or important data – the possibilities are diverse. The fee for participation is 20 euros per motif, and registration is easy using the form on the museum's website. Museum director Marius Krohn has already remedied initial difficulties with registration. If interested parties do not receive a registration confirmation, he recommends registering again or contacting us via email.

Celebrations around the first tapping

On July 20, 2025, the actual anniversary day, an extensive program will be offered in the museum. In addition to the opening at 11:00 a.m., the welcome and appreciation of the first tapping is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. The highlight of the celebrations is the official lighting of the mobile melting furnace at 12:15 p.m., followed by guided tours of the history of the steelworks and the Siemens-Martin furnace. Finally, at 2:15 p.m., at least half a ton of cast iron is cast - a spectacular spectacle that no one should miss.

During the day, visitors can also enjoy historical film and radio documentaries chronicling the history of the First Tap. Physical well-being is also taken care of: barbecue and cake stands are available to spoil guests with culinary delights. The workshops take place the week before, daily from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and are booked out quickly, which is why early registration is advisable.

A look into history

The Brandenburg an der Havel Industrial Museum plays a central role in documenting steel production and processing in the region. It was created around the last remaining Siemens-Martin furnace in Western Europe and is part of the European Route of Industrial Heritage. Not only is the technical development recorded here, but the everyday life of steelworkers in the early years after the Second World War is also documented. The founding and commissioning of the steelworks occurred during a period of reconstruction, and the first steel flowed on July 20, 1950, exactly 75 years before this year.

The museum not only offers a platform for creative workshops, but also a deep insight into the industrial history of the Brandenburg region, which was significantly shaped by iron and steel. So it's worth getting to know the industrial heritage and taking part in the festivities, because history comes to life here!
