Nighttime closures on the A3 and A45: Drivers beware!

Autobahn GmbH has announced several night-time closures in Hesse, which will come into force from today, June 30, 2025. These measures primarily affect the Kelsterbach exit on the A3, where necessary asphalt and marking work is being carried out. The closing times are from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., with one exception on Friday, July 4th, where the early closing ends at 2 a.m. A diversion via the Frankfurt motorway junction (A3/A5) will be set up to offer road users an alternative route. fnp.de also reports on further construction sites on the A45, especially at the Wölfersheim junction, where all-day guardrail work will take place.

These closures are just part of the extensive construction work currently underway in the Frankfurt area. Work on the A5 will begin on September 27, 2024, affecting the entrances and exits at the Zeppelinheim junction in the Offenbach district. The connecting ramps here are being completely renovated, which may cause traffic disruptions until October 21, 2024. Although a high volume of traffic is to be expected, the construction management also plans to work on weekends and nights in order to keep the disruption as low as possible. t-online.de also points out that the A45 also requires additional diversions to route local and national traffic.

Further impacts on traffic

In addition to the motorway closures, there are also significant changes at the Rüsselsheimer triangle. The connecting ramp from Mainz to Frankfurt will be closed from Monday evening, June 30th, to Tuesday morning, July 1st. Road users must be prepared for the fact that from July 1st traffic will be routed over a newly constructed road ramp and bridge, which will initially only be usable in one lane. Here too, a diversion via the A67, Groß-Gerau junction, is required during the closure. [fnp.de].

Public transport not without restrictions

Anyone who relies on local public transport should also keep an eye on the current changes. Between Wiesbaden and Frankfurt-Höchst there will be partial cancellations and replacement traffic from the end of May to the end of September due to work on the Flörsheim electronic signal box. Two different replacement bus routes are being used, while the “Hochheim Bahnhof” stop is temporarily no longer available for S-Bahn trains. hessenschau.de informs that during this phase the S1 will run every 30 minutes and many intermediate intervals will be eliminated, which will extend the travel time for many passengers.

So if you're planning to hit the streets or trains in the coming days, be prepared: It's best to find out about the current traffic situation and diversions beforehand to avoid unnecessary surprises.
