In these hot days, it's not just people who are looking for a refreshing dip in the water, our four-legged friends would also like to take a dip in the cool water. But where are dogs officially allowed to bathe in Hesse? The answer is: unfortunately not everywhere. A survey by Hesse show shows that only a few bathing areas are designated for the furry companions.
Northern Hesse is particularly dog-friendly and has several dog beaches. If you are traveling with your dog, you should definitely visit these places:
- Edersee bei Waldeck: Hundestrand auf der Halbinsel Scheid mit einer einladenden Liegewiese.
- Twistesee bei Bad Arolsen: Hier dürfen die Hunde in der Nähe des Reisemobilhafens planschen.
- Diemelsee: An diesem See gibt es gleich zwei Hundestrände – einer am Strandbad Diemelsee-Heringhausen und einer am Strandbad Marsberg-Helmighausen.
- Singliser See bei Borken: Ein ausgewiesener Hundebadestrand, wo Hunde jedoch an der Leine geführt werden müssen.
Dog beaches in Central Hesse and the surrounding area
But there are also some options for a trip with a dog in Central Hesse. For example, the lake pond in Mengerskirchen, where dogs have a separate lake entrance. At Trais-Horloffer See and Inheider See, however, things are a little more complicated: dogs are not allowed on the beaches here, but are allowed to swim on a special jetty and stairs. In Seepark Kirchheim, dogs are only allowed to refresh themselves in the water outside the bathing bay. Another option is the Bebra-Breitenbach leisure lake, where there is a separate area for dogs.
For a slightly different bathing trip, it is worth visiting Oppenheim am Rhein, which is located in Rhineland-Palatinate, but is known to many dog owners as a popular dog beach that cannot be missed in the surrounding area. Unfortunately, there are currently no official dog beaches for southern Hesse FFH notes.
