Milky Chance inspires 18,000 fans at the home concert in Kassel!

A very special event took place in Kassel on Saturday evening: Milky Chance and the Kassel State Orchestra performed in front of the picturesque backdrop of the Orangery in Karlsaue. The emotionally charged concert was a special kind of homecoming for the band, as they returned to their hometown after eight years, where around 18,000 people celebrated the unique mix of indie pop and classical music. Hessenschau reports, that the event took place under the direction of Ainārs Rubiķis, who accompanied the orchestra in reinterpreted arrangements of popular songs such as “Stolen Dance” and “Colorado”.

On the same day, August 23, 2025, the concert combined not only music but also sustainable principles. The event, which was held in cooperation with the Kassel State Theater and Kassel Marketing, promoted climate protection and social responsibility. By using 100% green electricity, providing a mobile water bar and presenting NGOs such as SOS Humanity and Greenpeace, an example of environmentally conscious action was set. Kassel.de highlights, that vegan and vegetarian food was also offered and visitors were encouraged to come by bike or public transport.

Visitor numbers and admission

Despite the huge crowd, there was a small traffic jam at the entrance, which delayed the entry time by half an hour. Young craftsmen, parents with their children and older generations were among the concert goers - a diverse audience that felt the band's creative energy. The chemistry between Clemens Rehbein, Philipp Dausch, Antonio Greger and Sebastian Schmidt was particularly evident as they started the evening with a passionate introduction to “Synchronize”. LifePR added that the evening also marked the start of the weather conditions and the culinary offerings of the next open-air event.

Over the last twelve years, the band has not only recognized its roots in Kassel, but has also made the leap onto the international stage. Their fourth album “Living in a Haze”, which successfully achieved gold status in Germany and Canada, contributes to the diversity of the concert. Rehbein spoke of his nervousness about wowing the audience in front of his home crowd and became more relaxed with each song. The evening ended after almost two hours with an emotional slow version of “Stolen Dance” that silenced the crowd.

A look at the future

After this great home game, the band took a creative break to work on new songs. Her next appearances will take place in Barcelona, Hockenheim and Wroclaw, but the connection to home remains strong. The return to Kassel and the collaboration with the state orchestra was a project close to the heart for everyone involved, which brought new impetus to the city's music scene. Milky Chance therefore remains an important part of Kassel culture and a symbol for sustainable events.
