Charity concert in Calden: Army Music Corps inspires 500 guests!
On Sunday, a very special charity concert took place in the picturesque courtyard of Wilhelmsthal Castle in Calden. The Kassel Army Music Corps, one of the most respected military orchestras in Germany, offered the numerous guests a musical highlight. Over 500 people braved the oppressive heat and enjoyed the sounds, which were sensitively led by Captain Christoph Schiffers. The proceeds from the concert will benefit the board of trustees for disabled people in the Kassel region, a cause that is not only musically but also socially important, as HNA reports.
In his opening speech, District Administrator Andreas Siebert highlighted the long-standing connection between the Kassel district and the Bundeswehr. This gathering is not only a form of entertainment but also an important platform for social causes. Siebert also greeted the active soldiers who are currently serving in Lithuania on the border with Belarus. The chairwoman of the board of trustees, Petra Friedrich, and retired colonel Jürgen Damm, president of the board of trustees, also did not miss the musical performances.
A celebration for a good cause
The concert, which was now taking place for the 43rd time, turned out to be a real crowd puller. The varied program selection offered something for every taste: from classics such as Robert Schumann's Variations on the Landmann Theme to lively pieces such as the Steel Pan Medley by soloist Claudia Römer, there was plenty of variety. The finale was the rousing “In the Mood” by Glenn Miller, which once again heated up the mood in the courtyard.
There were also positive reports on the topic of donations. The interim total during the concert was already over 5,000 euros, the final total was even higher at 5,200 euros. These amounts will directly benefit the Board of Trustees, which was founded 50 years ago by soldiers, initiated by Brigadier General Karl-Heinz Jörgens. Damm's commitment to fundraising was particularly recognized by Siebert.
A symbol for the community
The success of such charitable concerts shows that cultural events play a unifying role in our society. As the Kassel district website explains, the army musicians waive their fee so that the entire proceeds, without any deductions, go to support offers for disabled people. Such initiatives are a strong sign of civil-military cooperation and are becoming increasingly popular in the region.
The Bundeswehr regularly organizes similar events that bring people from different walks of life together. The following exhibition in Düren on November 19, 2024 also promises musical enjoyment in a sociable atmosphere and offers the opportunity to enjoy different musical styles and genres. Further information about the concert series can be found on the Appointments website.
