Strong thunderstorm warning for Hesse: there is a threat of lightning and storms!
The weather situation in Germany has worsened in the last few days and is causing alarm, especially in Hesse. The Fulda newspaper reports that the German Weather Service (DWD) is warning of severe thunderstorms in several regions. The Main-Kinzig district and Vogelsberg are particularly affected, where a thunderstorm warning is in effect until 6 p.m. on July 14th.
On a scale of 1 to 4, the thunderstorm level is rated at 2, meaning severe weather is expected. Lightning strikes, falling trees, and aquaplaning are just some of the expected hazards. Rainfall could reach up to 25 liters per square meter, while wind gusts could reach speeds of up to 60 km/h. The entire Rhine-Main area and the Giessen region are also affected by the warnings, whereas there are currently no acute warnings in Fulda, even if rain is to be expected here.
Storm forecasts for the coming days
In addition to the current warnings, further severe weather potential is on the agenda for Tuesday, July 15th. According to information from Severe Weather Center This could be due to the influence of two low pressure areas active at the same time.
In order to better counteract the dangers, a distinction is made between advance warnings and acute warnings, depending on the current weather situation. The severe weather warnings are divided into different levels. An acute warning signals that a thunderstorm poses an imminent danger. Three warning levels are used: orange for light thunderstorms with small-grain hail, red for severe thunderstorms with increased hail damage and purple for extremely dangerous weather conditions.
