Biedenkopf: Spice manufacturer wins award at the Great Taste Award!

There was reason to be happy in Biedenkopf! The spice manufacturer “The Little Gourmet” has won the prestigious award Great Taste Award 2025 received two awards at once. The garlic oil and pizza oil stood out particularly among the fine mustard and oil specialties, both of which were awarded one star. This honor is presented annually by the British organizationGuild of Fine Foodawarded and is considered one of the highest performance standards in the food industry.

But what makes the award so special? The Great Taste Award awards products based on the judgments of an independent jury of 500 experts who evaluate the products in blind tastings. Neither the brand name nor the packaging is disclosed. “We clearly focus on taste,” explained a representative of the organization. Participation in this competition is subject to a fee - around 150 euros had to be put on the table for the two award-winning oils.

Handcrafted delicacies from Biedenkopf

“Der kleine Gourmet” was founded in 2017 by Veronika and Kim Blecker and has since made a name for itself with handmade, vegan products. The manufacturer previously offered its goods at three locations, but since April 2023 it has centralized all processes in the new, modern rooms on Bachgrundstrasse in Biedenkopf. “That made everything easier,” said the owners. Customers can now pick up their online orders directly on site and take part in the regular warehouse sales. The next one of these events is on September 20th, so it's worth a visit!

Particularly noteworthy is the long development time of the garlic oil, which the Bleckers had to refine for over two years. Pizza oil, on the other hand, offers a harmonious composition of garlic, chili, basil and oregano, which is not only used when baking pizza. Both were rated as outstanding by the jury in the blind tasting.

Quality that convinces

In addition to the oil specialties, the company also has excellent products such as its olive oils in its portfolio. The Koroneiki olive, known from Greece, has been considered the most widely cultivated olive variety for over 5,000 years and is valued beyond the borders for its intense aroma. Your olive oil, which is made 100% from these olives, is packaged in an opaque tin that is ideal for refilling smaller containers. This means the oil stays fresh and aromatic for longer - another plus point for all cooking enthusiasts.
