When it comes to excursion destinations in the Rhine-Main area, Wiesbaden and the Rheingau are still making waves. But the joy is not quite so unclouded, as the number of day guests has declined over the last year. According to a recent report by FAZ Although there were pleasing overnight stay records, day-trippers seemed to be put in their place. Over a billion euros have been spent in the region, showing that tourism is a key pillar of prosperity.
The district administrator of the Rheingau-Taunus district, Sandro Zehner (CDU), has put his finger on the wound and suggests targeting new target groups. Foreign employees from international companies, such as those in Frankfurt, should be particularly targeted. The idea? To offer excursion packages for these groups and their families in the Rheingau. Among other things, round trips with stops in tranquil places such as Eberbach Monastery are being discussed.
Outlook and fit for the future
The wiser one gives in - and that could be exactly the case for the tourism strategy in Wiesbaden and the surrounding area. The focus should be on the needs of travelers who actually count as day guests. However, there is an interesting trend to observe here: More than a third of those surveyed stated that they wanted to spend less money on day trips in the future or even want to reduce them. A sign that the “defeats” in the wallet also have a strong influence on travel planning.
The statistics show a blurred view of the image of day visitors, as people from neighboring cities are also counted as such. A challenge that could, however, also turn into opportunities if you deal cleverly with offers and pricing. Leaders like Zehner don't rush with their heads against the wall, but rather think strategically and constantly.
