Shock in Marburg: A thousand bars of chocolate discovered in the crook's car!
What is happening in Hesse? A look at the local news shows that October 29, 2025 has a lot to offer. While a setback for Eintracht Frankfurt in the DFB Cup raises eyebrows, there is also reason for scientists to be happy.
It's not just footballers who have to contend with challenges. Eintracht Frankfurt had to give up in an exciting duel against BVB from Dortmund and was therefore eliminated from the DFB Cup. Those responsible were nevertheless satisfied with the team's performance and are not giving up hope for a better second half of the season, as they did daily news reported.
Scientific awards and research successes
A completely different success story brings Georgia Chalvatzaki into the spotlight. The robot researcher at the Technical University of Darmstadt was awarded the coveted Alfried Krupp sponsorship award for young university professors. This prize is endowed with an impressive 1.1 million euros. Chalvatzaki specializes in developing intelligent robots that can learn in real time from their interactions with people. The aim of their research is to use these robots in care in the future. Their innovative work is considered pioneering and has already made significant claims in the field of machine learning and robotics, such as TU Darmstadt reported.
Chalvatzaki has been a professor at TU Darmstadt since April 2023 and heads the iROSA research group, which deals with “Robot Learning of Mobile Manipulation for Assistive Robotics”. Your project was selected as part of the DFG call for artificial intelligence; Of the 91 proposals submitted, only 9 were funded. This shows that someone here has a good knack for promising technologies.
Fire and traffic problems
While science is flourishing, there is also less encouraging news. In Frankfurt-Griesheim, two garden sheds were on fire, which put the fire brigade on alert. The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are still unclear, but a grenade was found that fortunately was not live, reports daily news.
Not everything went smoothly in traffic either: a failed turning maneuver by a bus in Gelnhausen caused the L3201 to be closed for six hours. The bus had to be rescued with a truck crane, but fortunately there were no injuries.
And as if that wasn't enough, eleven hundred bars of chocolate, a large amount of coffee - a total of 207 packs - and 91 tubes of toothpaste were discovered in Marburg in a car whose occupants were wearing suspicious "stealer vests". Is there more to come to light? The police are investigating.
Finally, the weather for today must also be mentioned: It remains changeable with sun and clouds and temperatures between 11 and 16 degrees, but it should stay dry until the evening. A nice excuse to maybe enjoy a chocolate bar or two, if it doesn't come from a car thief!
