Discover Treysa's story: Free Monument Day hike!

September 14, 2025 is just around the corner in Cologne, a day dedicated to cultural heritage. With a lot of enthusiasm and commitment, the City History Working Group e.V. is organizing an exciting hike under the motto “Valuable: priceless or irreplaceable?” stands. This event is part of the Open Monument Day a Germany-wide event that has been coordinated by the German Foundation for Monument Protection since 1993.

It starts at 1:30 p.m. at the parking lot of the Hagebau market in Treysa, followed by an approximately four-hour hike through historically significant points and places of historical jurisdiction. An experienced guide, Bernd Raubert, will accompany the participants through the approximately 12 kilometer long route, which leads, among other things, through the floodplain meadows between Treysa and Ziegenhain. Other stops include the former duck trap, the Herzhausen desert and the Galgenberg, the former place of execution for the County of Ziegenhain.

A day full of experiences

The Open Monument Day has established itself as the largest cultural event in Germany. Every year, around 7,000 monuments in over 2,500 communities open their doors to millions of visitors. The event aims to highlight the importance of architectural heritage and is supported by numerous local initiatives. It is particularly worth mentioning that access to most offers on this day is free.

What else awaits hikers on this special day? In addition to visiting historical sites, tours are also planned in places that are normally inaccessible. Music lovers can look forward to concerts in atmospherically charged historic walls, and the interactive program app offers many options. This makes it easier to plan your personal day, offers information about open monuments and uses a calendar and reminder function to encourage you not to miss anything.
