Hessian champion Paul Schidleja fights for glory in Japan!
Rope skipping brings international excitement to Japan! Paul Schidleja, a talented athlete from TSV Trutzhain, represents Germany at the upcoming World Championship in Kawasaki. This high-profile event will take place from July 27th to August 3rd, 2025 and attracts athletes from all over the world.
Schidleja, who is Hessian runner-up and German champion, has decided to go to the big stage of the rope skipping world. Behind success there is necessarily a lot of hard work and intensive training. “There’s something there,” says not only his trainer, but also all the supporters who want to help with the high travel costs.
High costs and great support
However, since rope skipping is not an Olympic discipline, athletes and their supervisors must cover all expenses themselves. This includes not only flight and participation fees, but also team clothing. Fortunately, his kind is supported by the Kreissparkasse Schwalm-Eder, which made Schidleja's participation possible with a generous donation of 1,000 euros. “This is already a good step, but more supporters are needed,” is the community’s encouragement.
The Sparkling Skippers team from the Turnerschaft 1863 Germersheim e.V. is also represented at the World Championships. A total of 16 jumpers from this group qualified. The fascination for this sport lies in its diversity: Rope skipping combines speed disciplines with choreography, gymnastics elements and multiple jumps. A remarkable challenge!
Financial Challenges for Athletes
The estimated cost of attending this four-day event is anything but low. According to an overview of the group's support, the following sums would be raised:
| post | Costs (in euros) |
|---|---|
| World Cup package (food, insurance, accreditation) | 8,160 |
| Accommodation | 4,800 |
| Travel expenses | 25,600 |
| National team tracksuits | 1,600 |
| Competition registration fees | 1,080 |
| Total cost | 41,240 |
The teams are therefore calling for donations. Most of the athletes are high school or college students for whom these costs represent a significant hurdle.
