Schlitzer Trachtenfest: A colorful festival of cultures is waiting for you!
Schlitz in the Vogelsberg district is preparing for a very special highlight: VomJuly 11th to 14th, 2025that will beInternational music and folklore festivalinvited to the Schlitzerland traditional costume festival. During these four holidays, people from different countries come together to dance, sing and celebrate together. Participants from the USA, Uruguay, Belgium, Hungary and other nations can be seen, bringing cultural exchange to life.
The festival, which is celebrated every two years on the second weekend in July, has established itself as a real magnet for international visitors. With a mixture of traditional folklore and modern music, the traditional costume festival ensures a varied program. As the city of Schlitz reports, the festive spectacle includes not only music and dance, but also impressive highlights such as a colorful parade, breathtaking fireworks and the legendary polonaise through the picturesque old town.
A festival of encounters
The importance of togetherness and the friendly meeting of cultures is particularly evident in the voluntary work of local associations. Active groups such as the Schlitzerland traditional costume and folk dance circle and the Schlitzerland local history and traditional costume festival association play a central role in the organization and implementation of the festival. Families in the area are invited to host international groups as host parents and thus directly promote intercultural exchange.
A good example of this is provided by the Dietz family, who have been hosting guests at this festival for ten years. They welcomed two guests from Colombia into their home this year. Hartmut Dietz describes himself and his family as a “little cog in the wheel” of the festival and emphasizes how enriching the exchange is when cooking and celebrating together.

After the parade, the groups show their performances in the market square and in the courtyard of the music school, while a magnificent fireworks display is shot off on Sunday evening from the 36 meter high keep.
Monday, on the other hand, is all about the local population celebrating wildly with morning drinks and performances.
