Groundbreaking ceremony for B62 expansion in Angenrod: 18 months of construction begin!
The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the highly anticipated construction project took place in Angenrod. At 35 degrees Celsius in midsummer, the starting signal was given for the renovation of the B62, which has been in the planning stages for several years. oberhessische-zeitung.de reports that completion of the expansion is scheduled for the end of 2026.
A comprehensive expansion is planned in three construction phases, which also includes the construction of a new cycle path. Interestingly, the bridge over the Antrift was renewed last year, which brings the project into further focus. In order to ensure traffic safety during construction work, the through-town thoroughfare will be completely closed for around 18 months with appropriate diversions for regional traffic. Heavy traffic is being diverted generously and the speed limit is 30 km/h in large parts of the diversion route.
Important details about the construction process
The first construction phase is scheduled to be completed this year, 2025, with the full closure being lifted in the winter months. The German engineering landscape has shown a good hand here: 800 meters of the roadway will be completely renovated. The new cycle path and sidewalk will be 2.50 meters wide and will also include safety lanes. On the south side of the town thoroughfare, a sidewalk with widths of 165 to 250 centimeters will be created, while the roadway width will be seven meters.
Particularly noteworthy is the installation of a tactile guidance system, which is intended to make orientation easier for people with limited mobility. The bus stops will also be made barrier-free to ensure better connections for all citizens.
Financing the project
The total construction costs amount to 1,164,000 euros, with the conversion to LED technology for street lighting costing an additional 180,000 euros. The federal government contributes 50% of the costs of the cycling infrastructure, while the state of Hesse provides funding of around 450,000 euros. The costs for the new construction of the roadway are 1.7 million euros, which will be borne by the Federal Republic of Germany. Altogether, the total costs for both measures are almost three million euros, which also includes bridge repairs of around 800,000 euros.
For the future planning of closing the gap for cycle paths between Angenrod and Leusel, land negotiations are also necessary in order to quickly advance the realization of the cycle path. There is hope that things will move forward soon.
In today's world, when mobility and sustainability are very important, one could say that a future-oriented project is being set up here that will benefit the citizens of Angenrod and noticeably increase the quality of life in the region.
