City cycling Waldeck-Frankenberg 2025: records and new numbers of participants!
City cycling in Waldeck-Frankenberg is in full swing and has surprised us with records this year! According to information from HNA 2,639 participants took part, covering an incredible 635,908 kilometers together. This represents an increase compared to the previous year, where the total number of kilometers driven was only around 550,000. In 2025, the district set a clear record in terms of both the number of participants and the kilometers covered and, with a per capita average of 240.9 kilometers, ranks at the top among municipalities with 100,000 to 500,000 inhabitants in Hesse.
The competition took place between June 1st and 21st and, fortunately, all 21 towns and communities in the county took part. For those wanting to take a look at the individual results, the information will soon be available until June 28th, while the final result will be published in mid-July. The winning teams will be awarded prizes at the beginning of September in Korbach.
A look at the best participants
The cities and schools showed particularly remarkable performances in the competition. Frankenberg led the city ranking with 114,649 kilometers, followed by Bad Wildungen with 97,059 kilometers and Edertal with 82,850 kilometers. It is also exciting that Edertal is the place with the highest per capita value of 13.14 kilometers.
In the school sector, the Edertal comprehensive school had the best team with 21,215 kilometers, followed by the Christian-Rauch-Schule Bad Arolsen (18,420 km) and Team Mandern (17,711 km).
An event for the entire family
The event opened with various activities on the first of June, including rally trips to the Edertal Bike Park and a family festival that took place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On this day, four family-friendly routes were offered that were also suitable for children. These tours had a planned travel speed of around 15 km/h and could be accompanied by a guide. It is important to mention that there were no charging options for e-bikes at the destination and the return journey was your own responsibility. The road traffic regulations also applied throughout the events and helmets were required.
The entire competition has a clear goal: to raise awareness of cycling in everyday life, which particularly contributes to improving cycling planning. As a reminder: The initiative was launched by the Climate Alliance, a network of municipalities to protect the world's climate. Information and digital route planning are available via a flyer and gpx data.
Focus on promoting cycling
An important aspect that many may not have in mind is the support of cycling through various funding programs. These initiatives help to expand cycling conditions and contribute to climate protection. An overview of the application process for funding that deals with projects to promote cycling can be found at klimaschutz.de be read. It is exciting to see how the general conditions can be improved through such programs.
Overall, city cycling in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district impressively shows how much exercise there is in the region and that cycling is not only environmentally friendly, but also fun and contributes to health. The municipalities are on the right track, and the next steps in cycling planning promise a lot of potential.
