Severe weather warnings in northern Hesse: violent thunderstorms await us!

The weather situation in northern Hesse has noticeably worsened today, July 24, 2025. The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of storms that particularly affect the city and district of Kassel as well as the Schwalm-Eder district. The current warning level 3 out of 4 is valid until at least 6 p.m. and includes strong thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail, such as HNA reported.

The DWD's warning is clear: Citizens will experience intense rainfall of up to 35 liters per square meter per hour, coupled with gusts of wind that can reach speeds of up to 60 km/h. Dangerous situations such as lightning strikes and rapid flooding also occur. Light objects in particular can fly around, which poses significant risks. The situation will be monitored until 6.45 p.m. and the weather situation will remain unstable, with maximum temperatures between 20 and 27 degrees in the evening hours.

Severe weather warnings in detail

The official warnings also contain information for the various affected districts. For example, warning level 2 already applies to the Waldeck-Frankenberg district as well as to the Hersfeld-Rotenburg and Werra-Meißner-Kreis regions. These warnings are in effect until at least 6 p.m hessenschau.de supplemented.

The dangers of lightning should be taken seriously: Anyone who is outdoors should immediately seek shelter in buildings and avoid bodies of water. Loose objects should also be secured to avoid injuries. If flooding is imminent, you are advised to leave the cellar immediately and avoid areas at risk. Anyone traveling by car should be prepared for aquaplaning and adapt their driving style.

Looking ahead to the coming days

Further showers and low temperatures between 15 and 18 degrees are expected for the night from today to Friday. The weather will also remain unstable on Friday with showery rainfall in some areas and temperatures between 19 and 25 degrees. Saturday (July 26th) promises to be mostly cloudy and largely dry, while showers and thunderstorms can be reported again on Sunday (July 27th), according to the DWD, which will keep temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees.

However, there is positive news for August: the forecast indicates a possible stabilization of the weather situation, with the potential for warmer and friendlier weather. But until then, residents in northern Hesse have to prepare for these unsettled and thundery days.
