Trouble over the Rodheim level crossing: FDP demands better solutions!
An important traffic change in Rodheim is currently causing a lot of conversation. From October 24, 2025, the level crossing at Rodheim train station was completely closed to motor vehicles. This measure is part of the extensive modernization of the rail network in and around Rosbach v. d. Height that has been pushed forward by Deutsche Bahn (DB InfraGo) since the beginning of July. FNP reported about the associated challenges, which are not without problems for citizens.
The construction work, which will last until at least December 14, 2025, includes the installation of electronic signal boxes in Friedrichsdorf and Rosbach as well as the conversion of Rodheim station into a crossing station. An additional platform and a crossing track will be built there, which will ultimately increase the efficiency of train traffic on the route from Friedberg via Rosbach to Friedrichsdorf. The city of Rosbach v. d. Höhe is also coordinating work on a sewer and a drinking water pipe to improve the infrastructure. Rosbach reports about a provisional, secured crossing that will be available for pedestrians and cyclists from October 31st.
Detours and citizen dissatisfaction
The long closure of the level crossing has brought residents and the FDP parliamentary group in Rodheim to the fore. The FDP parliamentary group leader Hans-Otto Jacobi expressed clear dissatisfaction with the detours that citizens have to take in their daily tasks. What is particularly problematic for many people is the fact that the proposed alternatives are out of the question. The FDP politician Volker Roth called for an acceptable crossing solution and warned of possible fines that could result from using diversions. The city administration, on the other hand, considers the FDP's proposal to temporarily open field paths for cars to be unworkable. FNP describes the reasons for this: The structural condition of the farm roads does not allow a safe diversion.
These farm roads are not only unsuitable for vehicles, but must also remain safe for pedestrians and cyclists. Potholes, a lack of lighting and unsecured edges make it almost impossible to use in busy traffic. “The routes must also be kept clear as escape routes for the fire brigade and rescue services,” explained the city administration, emphasizing the challenges that would come with temporarily upgrading the economic routes.
View of the construction work
The final construction phase, which lasts until December 14, 2025, will not only include a renewal of the level crossing on Waldstrasse, but also a reduction in construction activities during the night. The DB is trying to keep noise pollution as low as possible and asks residents for their understanding. The diversion routes should be signposted in good time to make it easier for residents and travelers to find their way.
In summary, it can be said that the upcoming changes at Rodheim train station bring with them both opportunities for local public transport and challenges for local residents. The changes are seen as a necessary investment in the future of the region, but must be well coordinated during the transition period to minimize the impact on citizens.
