Büdinger Volunteer Day: Together for a more beautiful Büdingen!
On September 8, 2025, Büdingen was firmly in volunteer hands, as the traditional volunteer day attracted numerous citizens from all age groups to the city. Organized by the volunteer agency “Büdingen aktiv”, the event was all about community and the beautification of Büdingen and its districts. The Frankfurter Neue Presse reports that A total of 12 different hands-on activities were available, ranging from craft activities such as setting up a log cabin to cultural activities such as reading aloud and playing music.
The participation of 92-year-old Ella Ruhl and her age-mate Theresia Treut, who gave a reading in the old people's and nursing home, was particularly touching. The positive experiences of the participants surrounding the day's activities were clearly expressed when many expressed the wish to take part in further events.
From the idea to implementation
The Büdinger Volunteer Day is based on an initiative from the USA, where citizens volunteer on a certain day to work on projects for a good cause. How Dorfnews Wetteraukreis explains, this concept was taken up and successfully implemented by the volunteer agency in Büdingen. The next volunteer day is already planned for September 6, 2025 and is aimed at various target groups, including families, sports clubs and school students.
The projects also included the restoration of natural and leisure areas, such as gate maintenance in the Büdingen wildlife park, the renovation of the village square in Orleshausen and numerous other activities that were led by committed local leaders and volunteers. The volunteer day traditionally ended with a common vespers, where the participants had the opportunity to exchange their experiences and make new acquaintances.
Special features of the event
A highlight of the volunteer day was the custom bar, initiated by Anna Jäger, who initiated a careful use of resources and was looking for new volunteers. Various projects also took place in Calbach, such as creating a footpath to the bench and building a staircase.
Mayor Benjamin Harris and the chairman of the volunteer agency, Dr. Christoph Kober, were impressed by the enthusiasm of those involved. The younger generation was also encouraged to get actively involved in volunteer work, which promoted intergenerational exchange in an amazing way.
To provide for the hard-working helpers, pretzels and drinks were brought to the work sites during the work, and the convivial conclusion with a shared lunch in the “La Porta” café rounded off the day in an atmospheric way. The final reflection of the day once again made it clear how important volunteer work is to complement professional structures and that the visible commitment of the volunteer agency should be rewarded.
