Rodgau Monotones rock the Hessentag: an evening full of hits!
On June 16, 2025, Bad Vilbel was the setting for a great event: The Rodgau Monotones open the Hessentag with a rousing performance. The band, which has been rocking the stages since 1977, has once again managed to send their fans into ecstasy. Lids like “I don’t care” and “Ei gude wie” quickly had the audience on their side, which the lead figure Peter “Osti” Osterwold, who announced the premiere on the Vilco stage, knew all too well.
The Rodgau Monotones, who originally come from the greater Rodgau area, have set themselves the goal of playing party rock and turning away from the previously popular German and jazz rock. Founded by five musicians who were selected based on the criterion “who is the loudest in the country”, the band began practicing and performing live songs by greats such as ZZ-Top and Johnny Winter in its first year. The first concerts were often entertaining, spontaneous events, which is what made the Rodgau Monotones so charming.
Musical tradition and successes
With hits like “Erbarme, zu late, die Hesse komm” and “Volle Lotte” the Rodgau Monotones have achieved high chart positions not only in Hesse but also nationwide. The breakthrough came with her hit “Ei, Gude wie!”, which received a lot of airplay in Hesse. The Monotones have been able to celebrate such successes again and again, including at the WAA Festival, where they performed in front of a large audience. Even in 2025, at the Hessentag opening, they proved that the band's live success story shows no signs of decreasing interest.
Guests and fans of the band came in droves and celebrated the well-known music with flags and exuberant singing. The last songs were sung with full fervor. This proves once again that the Rodgau Monotones not only make music, but can also captivate the audience with their passion and energy. The band politely thanked us with encores, which rounded off the evening perfectly.
The band through the ages
The founding of the Rodgau Monotones in November 1977 has given rise to a long and varied history. With their first album “Do you want music, or what?” from 1982 they laid the foundation for an impressive career. Numerous other albums and line-up changes followed, which changed the band structure again and again. Among the members you will find the founding memberPeter “Osti” Osterwold, the talented oneKerstin Pfauas a singer,Ali NeanderandRolf Plauelnon the guitar as wellJoky Beckeron bass and theDrummer Martin Kessler, whileMatthias “Mattl” Dörsamprovides the typical sound on the saxophone.
The band has even committed itself to constantly writing new pieces in order to maintain their creativity and always entertain the audience. So the future of the Rodgau Monotones remains exciting and promising. After the multi-layered performance at Hessentag, one thing is clear: The Rodgau Monotones are continuing on their path and will hopefully remain present in the German music world for many years to come.
