Free swimming courses in Wiesbaden: Register now for safe children!
One in three children in Germany cannot swim safely when they leave primary school. This is an alarming number that forces parents and authorities to take action. With swimming pools increasingly closed and waiting lists growing, the opportunity for children to learn to swim is severely limited. This not only leads to a lack of swimming skills, but also an increased risk to life in summer. This is where the “Desjoyaux Pool School” initiative comes into play and is committed to improving children’s swimming ability.
The French company Desjoyaux, known for its private swimming pools, launched the Desjoyaux Pool School in 2024. This initiative will continue in summer 2025 to ensure every child can swim, regardless of income or location. In Wiesbaden, Gramenz Garten- und Landschaftsbau is making its facility available again from July 28th to August 8th, 2025 to hold the temporary swimming school. Professional swimming instructors will teach children from splashing around to reaching the seahorse, imparting important skills.
Conditions of participation and registration
Parents can register their children to take part in this swimming course free of charge now until June 17, 2025. The course is for children aged 5 to 12 and therefore offers a valuable opportunity for all ages. Registrations are both online at desjoyaux.de as well as on site in Desjoyaux stores. If there is a high number of registrations, a lottery will be used to decide whether to participate.
It is noteworthy that 57 percent of children are rated by their parents as safe swimmers, however this is not always the reality. Many parents mistakenly believe that the seahorse is a sign of swimming ability. In reality, a child needs a bronze swimming badge to be considered a truly confident swimmer. According to the DLRG, 58 percent of children at the end of primary school estimate that they are not safe swimmers, which underlines the urgency of such programs.
Celebrity support
The initiative is supported by swimming icon Franziska van Almsick and triathlon star Jan Frodeno, who are actively committed to promoting swimming and underlining the importance of swimming. Against this background, it becomes clear why the Desjoyaux Pool School offering is a valuable enrichment for the children in the region. Parents are called upon to take advantage of the opportunity to introduce their children to the world of swimming in a protected environment.
In summary, Desjoyaux Pool School is a great way to develop children's swimming skills and provides the support they need to ensure that no child enters the water without swimming skills. For further information, it is worth taking a look at the Desjoyaux website or the DLRG, which points out the importance of swimming ability.
