A splash of color in the northern German sports landscape: The FKV championships in street boßeln attracted attention this year. In Rispel and Leerhafe, located in the Friedeburg district association, a total of 288 passionate Boßelers competed against each other in 46 classes. And the result was truly impressive: the teams from East Frisia dominated the event and secured an impressive 35 gold medals NWZonline reports.
Overall, the new title holders were determined in a variety of age groups. The enthusiasm for this traditional sport, also known as “Bosseln” or “Klootschützen”, is unbroken in northern Germany, especially in East Frisia. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, originally as an unregulated showdown between rival villagers, before the sport was sported in the 19th century. Today it is organized in clubs such as the Frisian Kloot Shooter Association (FKV), which represents over 30,000 members in more than 240 clubs, such as the Wikipedia described in detail.

The medal haul impressively reflects the strength of the East Frisian Boßler. In addition to the 35 gold medals, they also secured 27 silver and 25 bronze medals. The competition from Oldenburg won 11 gold medals and 19 silver medals, a total of 288 medals were distributed.

The main classes were all dominated by the East Frisians, with impressive performances in the various categories. In the women's race, Ines Peters triumphed with the wooden ball over a distance of 1286 meters, while Anke Klöpper covered the distance of 1527 meters with the rubber ball and thus secured her 29th FKV title. Julia Heiken also shone with a strong performance and won with the iron ball (1517 meters).
Tradition and community
The performances in the age groups were also remarkable. Bianca Töbermann and Karin Ledebuhr won silver in their categories, while Jens Stindt and Uwe Graalfs won gold. Boßeln is more than just a sport; it promotes a sense of community and tradition, with many events being framed by social celebrations. East Frisia-North Sea highlights the special importance of Boßeln, that it has a similar status in East Frisia as football in other regions of Germany.
