A rare find in Aurich's oldest restaurant: Shakshuka inspires!

A visit to the “Zur Börse” restaurant in Aurich, Lower Saxony, not only produced culinary delights, but also brought a special find into the spotlight. The reporter from the Ostsee-Zeitung (OZ) and a colleague were in this charming restaurant on Burgstrasse, which is very popular in the busy pedestrian zone when the weather is good. What stands out on the menu is Shakshuka, an oriental delicacy that is rarely found in German restaurants.

With a price category of 9.50 euros for the Shakshuka and 4.50 euros for the homemade ginger-lime lemonade, the reporter's colleague decided on this combination. The verdict was extremely positive: the Shakshuka held up to the colleague's anticipation and noticeably impressed her. The reporter, who is usually picky about tomato sauces, was also impressed by the dish. The strong flavors won them over and the dish presented itself as a real highlight of the menu.

Women's business in the restaurant

The reporters also didn't miss the grilled goat cheese with figs, thyme honey and baguette. This was by no means generous in terms of portioning, but it harmonized perfectly with the sweet figs and honey. The price for the entire package of goat cheese and a cherry spritzer totaled 16.50 euros. In addition to the great dishes, the homemade lemonade stood out as a special highlight, a refreshing drink that has a clear advantage in the warm season.

The reporters' experiences suggest that German cuisine, which already offers an impressive variety of regional and national dishes, can be pleasantly expanded with such unusual dishes as Shakshuka. German cuisine is known to be rich in bread and baked goods, with the pretzel being the best-known bread specialty. Ingredients such as sausage and cheese also play a central role in German food culture, which is reflected in the restaurant dishes, which are characterized by their variety and quality.

An unexpected find

But exciting things didn't just happen on the reporters' plates: divers made a remarkable find in the Salzgitter bathing lake. They came across a completely preserved tusk of a woolly mammoth, estimated to be 10,000 to 110,000 years old. A spectacular piece of history that underlines how much unknown lies still hidden before our eyes.

The experiences at “Zur Börse” and the extraordinary finds in the region prove that there is always something to discover in Aurich, be it a delicious dish or an important relic from the past. A visit is worth twice as much!
