Inclusion in the stadium: Eintracht Braunschweig promotes diversity in 2025!

The third club fan dialogue of the year took place in Cologne on July 9, 2025, and the main topic was inclusion. Patrick “Pöödy” Leonardi, Eintracht Braunschweig’s inclusion fan representative, was a guest. He presented the work of his department, which is part of the fan support department at Eintracht Braunschweig GmbH & Co KGaA. This inclusive fan service takes care of processing ticket requests, plans away trips and organizes everything related to visiting the stadium for people with disabilities. Christoph Burow, chairman of the “Eintracht Inclusive” fan club, supported Pöödy in this dialogue.

Participants had the opportunity to ask questions, which led to lively and constructive conversations. It was particularly pleasing that the “Stadium Accompaniment” project was awarded the Integration Prize as Project of the Month. This offer is not only aimed at people with walking or visual impairments, but is intended for all fans. Volunteers offer support, be it orientation in the stadium or personal support on match day, all in the spirit of inclusion.

Growing need for inclusion

The voluntary work of the helpers shows how important this commitment is. However, there are challenges because capacities are limited. The need for inclusion offers is constantly increasing, and it is evident that more support is needed to adequately care for the heterogeneous group of fans. In some large cities, the position of inclusion fan representative is already filled full-time in order to meet the requirements. The goal is clear: all football fans should be supported and integrated in the best possible way in order to make the stadium a place for everyone.

Similarly, KSC strives to provide its fans with an inclusive stadium experience. The focus is on people with individual limitations or social hurdles. The BBBank Wildpark should be a real home for everyone, characterized by community, diversity and cohesion. The collaboration with Lebenshilfe Karlsruhe was started last year to implement real measures for inclusion. For example, an inclusion game day took place, which not only served as a celebration of the partnership, but also laid the foundation for further projects.

Together for a better experience

On the practical side, the KSC uses a bus shuttle service that takes fans with mobility restrictions to the stadium and back. The operational integration of people with disabilities, who collect donations for the “Football makes you feel full” project after home games, is also one of the initiatives that have been implemented. Since July 2024, over ten fans have received individual support and been able to enjoy positive stadium experiences.

In this sense, it shows how important collaboration between clubs and organizations is to promote realistic inclusion measures. The feedback from fans is consistently positive and the joint efforts are bearing fruit. An inclusive stadium is no longer a utopia, but is increasingly becoming a lived reality. It will be exciting to see how the integration of fans with restrictions will develop in the coming years.
