Deichbrand Festival: 60,000 fans expect traffic jams and full lanes!

On July 17, 2025, things will be happening again for many music lovers: The popular Deichbrand Festival starts in Nordholz, in the Cuxhaven district. This year no fewer than 60,000 guests are expected, around 30,000 of whom are already arriving today. Arriving early can pay off, after all, the organizers have included an early arrival option in the program, which is well used.

As the NDR reports, traffic volumes are expected to be highest between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. today. The A27 in particular, which only has one lane free due to a construction site near Bremerhaven-Wulsdorf, is becoming a bottleneck. The police advise those arriving to follow the organizers' instructions and the designated diversions in order to avoid inconvenient traffic jams.

High utilization and unplanned buffers

So traffic jams and patience are required. The problem is not new: there were similar traffic situations last year. The Buten and inland has confirmed that traffic arriving from the south will be heavily backed up. In order to ease the flow of traffic, vehicles are slowly guided onto the festival site, which results in additional waiting times.

Train travelers also have to be prepared for full trains. Connections to the North Sea are particularly in high demand. It is best for travelers from Bremen to use the North Sea Railway to Nordholz with a change in Bremerhaven, while visitors to Hamburg should go directly to Cuxhaven train station. A practical shuttle service awaits festival visitors here, taking them from the train station to the festival site.

Anticipation and safety precautions

The anticipation for the festival is great and the mood is boiling over: over 120 acts have been announced that will provide a typical North Sea flair. Considering that about half of the visitors plan to arrive early, it's no wonder that police are expecting a lot of traffic, both on Wednesday and Thursday. It is also noted that the return journey on Monday night could also be associated with traffic jams.

In the meantime, it's important to prepare as best as possible for your journey so that you can fully enjoy the festival experience!
