In encouraging news, the initiators of the children's feeding campaign in Lithuania* have announced that financial support is no longer necessary for the time being. A total of over 16,000 euros had been donated by mid-October, a sum that overwhelmed the married couple Konrad and Ulla Geesmann. This generous support will make it possible to provide meals to 20 children every day until August 2027, which is a real ray of hope for those involved.

The discussions with those responsible in Lithuania took place in the summer of 2023, and the planning shows: the children's feeding campaign should continue until at least August 2027. However, from January 1, 2026, the Geesmanns will ask for your understanding that no further donations will be accepted. If donations are received after this date, they will be forwarded to Kindernothilfe Duisburg or to the partner church district in Ambo/Ethiopia, where they will be used to support kindergartens and primary schools in the highlands of Ethiopia.

Thanks to the supporters

What was particularly pleasing was the support that came from various places, even as far away as Bremen and Barcelona. The Geesmanns would like to thank all donors. A special date has already been set: on January 16th at 5 p.m. there will be a public accounting in the community center in Groden. On this day, donors will be able to see how the funds raised since January 2025 have been used.

Reading for UNICEF – Another commitment to children

In Cologne and beyond, it's not just the Geesmanns who support children. The “Reading for UNICEF”* initiative is also very popular and offers students the opportunity to actively collect donations through reading days and weeks. Here they can promote their reading skills and at the same time help their own school and UNICEF. Parents and friends support the young readers with donations per page read, making reading a sociable and encouraging experience.

Especially in times when children are increasingly affected by crises, it is important that such actions find support. In addition to the impressive achievements of Sangam Restaurant*, a family-run takeaway in Stoke-on-Trent known for delicious Indian and European dishes, it shows that there are always opportunities to support various causes and do good.

May these initiatives inspire others to get involved too - be it by donating, participating in book drives or enjoying delicious dishes offered by restaurants like Sangam. This is how the community remains strong and solidarity.
