Pure excitement: Boßel competition in Rispel and Leerhafe attracts 288 participants!
Things will be exciting at the Frisian Kloot Shooter Association (FKV) at the weekend, as the Boßlers will compete in two exciting competitions. A total of 288 participants compete in the picturesque towns of Leerhafe and Rispel to win the championship titles. The event will take place on June 21st and 22nd, with the first throws starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday. The competition locations are Rispel on Hoveler Straße and Leerhafe on Müggenkruger Straße. Especially in Rispel, spectators can experience exciting competitions on two tracks with wooden and rubber balls, while in Leerhafe the East Frisians are fighting for the national championship. In Rispel, participants have the opportunity to show off their skills with different balls and face the challenge.
Last year an impressive 57 participants reached the FKV championship, including 14 throwers who want to defend their title. The best performances from the last national championship underline the high level of performance. Femke Wilberts achieved an outstanding 1483 meters with the iron ball, followed by Anke Klöpper, who reached 1455 meters with the rubber ball. Among the men, Marian Jahnke impressed with his 2220 meters in the iron ball category. The region's team performance also shines: Last season, East Frisia won an impressive 35 gold, 21 silver and 25 bronze medals, followed by Oldenburg with 11 gold, 25 silver and 21 bronze medals. This will be exciting!
The Frisian Kloot Shooters Association in focus
The Frisian Kloot Shooters Association, founded in 1902, now has over 30,000 members in more than 240 clubs. This makes it one of the most important sports organizations in the region. Those responsible at the FKV have made it their mission to organize national games for both Boßler and Klootschützer, which is a valuable tradition of East Frisian sport. Once a year, the Klootschützer field fight is held on frozen ground, and the individual championships give the athletes the opportunity to prove themselves in different age groups.
A historical anecdote shows that toilet shooting is deeply rooted in the culture. In 1837, a dispute over prize money led to riots between teams from Jeverland and East Frisia. This sport has developed from a popular sport into a structured competitive sport that now attracts large numbers of spectators. In the “Friesensport” exhibition in the Jever Castle Museum, the rich tradition of klot shooting and related sports is clearly presented. Above all, the historical photos and anecdotes from the past make the fascination of this sport clear.
Competition for titles and medals
This year's FKV Championship promises not only exciting competitions, but also the opportunity for the athletes to demonstrate their best performances for the year. The different age groups offer athletes a platform to compete fairly. The Boßel and Klootschützen competitions make it clear that community and sport are very important in East Frisia. It's not just the outstanding performances that are impressive, but also the team spirit and tradition that make this sport what it is. The event next weekend will certainly attract many visitors and create a lot of excitement.
We can't wait to see how the participants perform and whether new records are set. The region is looking forward to the event and we are sure that the competitions will be a celebration of Frisian sport.
