The summer concert of the Mariengymnasium in Jever was an impressive spectacle that took place on June 24, 2025 in the town church. Students and teachers offered all kinds of musical and dance performances in a two and a half hour program. This event was the result of months of intensive preparation and demonstrated the long-standing tradition of the Mariengymnasium, which has existed since 1573. It was a real pleasure to witness the enthusiasm and talent of those involved. The range of the repertoire was impressive, ranging from classical music to musicals and films to pop. Jan-Paul Weber, a 9th grade student, performed enthusiastically in the choir, while Thure Lerch, who is only in 7th grade, had his first piano performance. Stientje Schwitters' dance to “Le Cigne” by Camille Saint-Saëns, in which she was accompanied by Carolin Ehmann on the cello and Philipp Ehmann on the piano, was particularly touching. Philipp, who is a music student himself, left a lasting impression with his performance.

Diverse performances and musical talents

It was nice to see how the students had the courage to go on stage, even if their nervousness was obvious - especially for those who were performing for the first time. Every evening brought highlights; Class 5b danced to the gentle melody of “Nuvole Bianche” by Einaudi. The MG Voices and MG Jazztones played “The Sound of Silence” by Paul Simon, while the MG Big Band interpreted a title from “West Side Story”. The emotional highlight of the evening was the school choir singing the title song “Memories Of Maria”, which was arranged by Frauke Harland. At the end, the ensemble received thunderous applause, while Caroline Ehmann addressed grateful words to her music teachers and classmates.

Such musical events not only support students' individual development, but are also part of a larger picture of promoting musical education for children and young people. Initiatives like that of Alliances for Education show how important access to music and cultural projects is. These programs aim to create equal opportunities and promote the personal development of young people through making music together.

Together for the future

Parallel to the summer concert, the city of Jever was working on other important topics, including the promotion of renewable energies.
