New cycle path in the Gifhorn district: 700 meters more safety for cyclists!
What is actually happening in the Gifhorn district? The answer is clear: good things for cyclists! The district recently opened a new cycle path that runs along the K104 between Groß Schwülper and Walle. This measure helps to expand the cycle path network on county roads by an impressive 700 meters and ensures more safety on the roads. The popular cycle path, on which cyclists can now travel safely, is 2.50 meters wide, which significantly increases riding comfort. This is reported by regionalheute.de.
Particularly noteworthy is the fully developed curve area with a length of 267 meters. Here the road was not only milled down by 4 centimeters, but also given a new asphalt surface layer. In addition, a crossing aid should be created for pedestrians and cyclists at the entrance to the town, which makes crossing the street safer. The project also took a close look at the “Bornheider Weg” bus diversion route, which runs from Groß Schwülper to Lagesbüttel and was in urgent need of renovation due to the daily use of 17 school buses.
Investments and funding
The total cost of this cycle path is around 580,000 euros. Significant support came from funding from the state of Lower Saxony, which covered 75 percent of the construction costs in accordance with the Lower Saxony Municipal Transport Financing Act (NGVFG). This means that the Gifhorn district only had to invest 365,000 euros in road renovation without having to use any funding.
The NGVFG offers municipalities and districts excellent opportunities to improve municipal road construction and traffic conditions. It enables funding of up to 75 percent of the costs for measures such as the construction and expansion of cycle paths and inner-city roads [strassenbau.niedersachsen.de].
Funding opportunities at a glance
The funding pots are diverse. The programs are designed so that they each have different focuses. Anyone interested in funding opportunities should take a closer look at the following programs:
- Niedersächsisches Gemeindeverkehrsfinanzierungsgesetz (NGVFG): Förderung von bis zu 80 % für Verkehrswichtige Radwege und Radschnellwege.
- Sonderprogramm „Stadt und Land“: Bis zu 75 %, sogar 90 % für finanzschwache Kommunen.
- Bundesförderung kommunaler Klimaschutz: Verbesserungen im Radverkehr zwischen 25 % und 70 %.
The municipal association office also offers valuable advice so that municipalities do not lose track of the numerous funding options. It pays to have a good hand when applying for this financial support in order to further promote cycling and improve the infrastructure.
The new cycle path between Groß Schwülper and Walle is another step in the right direction for more safety and comfort in cyclists' everyday lives. We can only hope that further projects will be launched!
