There's a lot going on at the Brauweg outdoor pool in Göttingen! The new “holiday home park at the outdoor pool” is intended to provide a breath of fresh air in leisure activities. Four colorful wooden caravans are ready to welcome curious guests. Göttinger Sport- und Freizeit GmbH (GöSF) has developed a creative plan to rent out the approximately 18 square meter mobile homes. Each vehicle houses a kitchen, a bathroom and can accommodate up to four people. An overnight stay costs 120 euros. This could be a lucrative source of income for the GöSF, which is struggling with a deficit of around one million euros a year, like Göttinger Tageblatt reported.
The decision to set up the holiday home park was made in 2024. The caravans were originally for sale on kleinanzeigen.de, but were never put into operation. With the plan to rent out the cars outside of the outdoor pool season, the GöSF is pursuing a strategy to promote sports tourism and local recreation. However, questions remain about the actual tourist demand and the cost structure of the caravans, and quite a few have concerns about whether the caravans actually offer suitable accommodation for families. The outdoor pool is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and offers a cinema until midnight in summer.
Opening times and prices of the outdoor pool
For everyone who wants to take a refreshing dip in the water, the Brauweg outdoor pool opens its doors in the summer season from Monday to Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The admission price for adults is 4.50 euros, reduced tickets are available for 2.80 euros. If you want to take a spontaneous swim after work, you can jump into the water from 6:30 p.m. for the friendly price of 2.50 euros. A season ticket is available for 200 euros, while children, young people and people with disabilities can go swimming for 70 euros. However, this card can only be purchased at the ticket office in the Eiswiese bathing paradise.
Leisure opportunities in the area
The area around the outdoor pool also has a lot of leisure activities to offer. The Wendebach reservoir near Göttingen invites you to linger. With its excellent water quality and a shallow bank area, it is particularly suitable for little swimmers. At the lake there are information boards, playgrounds and a barbecue area where you can spend a nice day when the weather is good. Lifeguards from the DLRG ensure the safety of bathers during the school holidays, and if you are a little hungry, there are snacks and refreshing drinks in the “Taverne am See” food truck. As Göttingen Tourismus highlights, these are all offers that promote local recreation in the region.
The concept of the holiday home park at the Brauweg outdoor pool is being considered as an experiment - the question remains whether the regional leisure activities and the rental of caravans will represent good business for Göttingen Sport- und Freizeit GmbH. The first guests may be expected in the coming months.
