Cultural diversity in July: concerts and theater in Göttingen!

July 2025 will be a cultural highlight in Göttingen and the surrounding region, promising numerous events despite the theaters' typical summer break. The variety is impressive and offers something for every taste. The Göttinger Tageblatt reports that classical music is a particular focus, with a series of concerts taking place in the coming weeks.

Let's start with the Friday music in the Jacobikirche, which starts at 6 p.m. and has the advantage that admission is free. On July 4th, Irene Roth-Halter will perform romantic organ music, followed on July 11th by David Pipe, who will play works by greats such as Rheinberger and Mozart. A highlight will be the performance of the Lower Saxony State Youth Choir on July 18th, which will perform Bach and Altnikol. There will also be first-class music on July 25th with Elke Hahn on the organ.

Classical music and oratorios

Particularly worth mentioning is the oratorio “The Song of the Bell” by Max Bruch, which will be performed on July 12th and 13th in the Rats- und Marktkirche St. Johannis. The ensemble and soloist line-up is pleasing: Lavinia Dames (soprano), Johanna Krödel (alto), Sung Min Song (tenor) and Bernhard Hansky (bass) are led by Antonius Adamske. Admission to these concerts is available through advance booking offices and online, and the introductory event on the topic of understanding citizens and the state as well as gender image will take place on July 7th at 6 p.m. - with no admission charge, so that anyone who is interested can get involved.

In addition, the Göttingen University Choir and Orchestra will be holding a concert on July 12th at 7 p.m. and July 13th at 5 p.m. Bruch's piece will also be the focus here, and a notable aspect is the large number of over 100 singers and around 70 instrumentalists who will contribute to the success of the evening.

The theater pre-program

The Deutsches Theater Göttingen has its last performances before the summer break, including the plays “The First Hundred Days” and “Rose Royal”, which can be seen on July 1st. The last opportunity to experience “This Play Goes Wrong” is on July 2nd and 4th before the new schedule is unveiled on July 3rd. At the same time, the Young Theater is offering various performances until July 7th, including the popular “Pippi Longstocking”.

After numerous cultural activities, the theaters in the OP are also taking their summer break and are still offering guest performances such as “Either… or?” on July 1st and “The Green Cockatoo” on July 5th. An event not to be missed is the premiere of “Servants of Two Masters” on July 23rd.

The festivals and summer concerts

The Göttingen cultural summer should not be forgotten. Among others, Matthias Brandt and Jens Thomas can be seen here on July 5th and Meret Becker on July 6th. The Schlossfestspiele in Sondershausen with the musical “Zorro” and the Gandersheim Cathedral Festival with “Cabaret” are also worth a visit. These events offer a great way to make the most of the summer months culturally.

If you're still interested in musical experiences, you can visit the Freden Music Days from August 2nd to 10th, which end with a concert on July 29th. And of course you shouldn't forget the North Hesse Cultural Summer events, which also promise some wonderful performances.

A diverse cultural program awaits us in Göttingen. Be it classical music, exciting theater performances or entertaining festivals – there is something for everyone here and it is worth spending the summer months actively!
