Nocturnal noise protection work on the railway line: residents informed!
In the coming weeks, residents of the RB 56 railway line between Neuenhaus and Bad Bentheim will have to prepare for nighttime noise pollution. Comprehensive green maintenance work will be carried out from Sunday, July 20, 2025 and is expected to last until August 29, 2025. These measures are necessary to maintain the safety and operational situation of the railway. The night-time work from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. is intended to disrupt normal operations as little as possible, but this is associated with certain inconveniences for residents. Deutsche Bahn thanks you for your understanding and apologizes for any possible disruptions
.
One reason for this new mulching and mowing work is Deutsche Bahn's increased commitment to vegetation management. Since 2018, the company has started investing more in maintaining trees along the tracks. A team of experts, consisting of over 1,000 foresters and vegetation managers, takes care of pruning trees and removing diseased and unstable specimens. This has resulted in storm-related damage to tracks and overhead lines falling by 25 percent within two years. In this way, Deutsche Bahn shows that it has a good knack for sustainable solutions that take both rail operations and environmental protection into account. Loud Railway International The annual expenditure for vegetation care is a remarkable 125 million euros.
Sustainability in view
A further step towards environmentally friendly vegetation care is the phase-out of glyphosate use in Germany. Since 2023, Deutsche Bahn has completely stopped using this herbicide. Instead, sustainable vegetation management is pursued, which is based on various, environmentally friendly methods. We are working intensively with other European railways to develop and test alternative processes that improve track management without harming the environment. DB is in the process of developing innovative solutions and using approved alternative herbicides to ensure safe rail operations.
Future vegetation controls will be supported by the use of digital technologies. Satellites and drones are being used to create digital vegetation maps and effectively identify storm-prone trees. These modern approaches are intended to ensure that fewer lengths of track need to be treated with effort and at the same time nature is protected.
Deutsche Bahn is aware of its responsibility and recognizes that safe rail operations and environmental protection must go hand in hand. The mixture of different care measures, the control of vegetation on the track and the conscious avoidance of harmful chemicals show that we are on the right track.
The next few weeks will show how the residents in Neuenhaus and Bad Bentheim deal with the upcoming work. It remains to be hoped that the measures will lead to an even more reliable railway and that the region will benefit from improved rail operations.
