Hanover celebrates the reopening: the largest maternity hospital in northern Germany!

Things are happening in Hanover today! The new mother-child center “Henrike” has started regular operations. Up to 4,500 new people are expected to see the light of day here every year. The investment costs for this impressive project, which is considered Northern Germany's largest maternity hospital, amount to around 100 million euros. The center, which accommodates 67 mothers and their newborns, is equipped with nine delivery rooms and numerous family rooms. A place where both those wishing to give birth and their relatives can feel comfortable.

The renovation, which was originally scheduled to start in summer 2024, has been delayed due to construction problems. According to [ndr.de]. This means that 80 percent of the costs will flow into the project, which will be borne by the state of Lower Saxony, while the remaining part will be borne by Diakovere and the children's hospital.

A center for the future

Health Minister Dr. Last week, Andreas Philippi delivered a funding notice of 4 million euros from the hospital investment program for the new mother-child center Niedersachsen.de. This step marks the merger of the obstetric and neonatal clinics of the DIAKOVERE Henrietten and Friederikenstifts at one location. Prof. Florian Guthmann, medical director of the center, also emphasized the importance of this funding for a modern and family-friendly ward for newborns.

But it's not just the new center that is on the road to success. A look at the birth statistics shows that Lower Saxony recorded a total of 32,207 clinical births last year. The DIAKOVERE Henriettenstift leads the ranking with 2,380 deliveries and shines with a care quotient of 40.39. This is clearly a top grade when you look at the care ratios in other clinics. According to news.de, the Braunschweig Municipal Clinic is slightly behind with 1,898 deliveries and a care quotient of 53.24 Henrietta pen.

A good hand for the future

Whether at home, in a birthing center or in the hospital – every birth is unique and requires individual care. Lower Saxony has a total of 143 hospitals that carry out over 1.4 million procedures annually. The care quotient in our state is 52.78, which indicates that the burden on caregivers is higher than the national median of 50.38. So it's a little more relaxed where the numbers look good in comparison.

So let’s be excited to see what the new “Henrike” mother-child center will bring for women and families in Lower Saxony. With the best options for safe birth and modern equipment, the future looks really bright here. Who knows, perhaps a small crowd will soon be standing in front of the new acquisition while the center is ceremoniously inaugurated!
