The roots of TSV Hannover-Burgdorf go back to 1922, when the Burgdorf Free Gymnastics Association was founded. Since the name was changed to TSV Hannover-Burgdorf Handball GmbH in 2005, the team has played in the Handball Bundesliga, better known as DIE RECKEN. Since 2005, home games have been played in the Swiss Life Hall or, increasingly due to spectator interest, in the ZAG Arena.
