TSV Hannover-Burgdorf: Defeat against Erlangen – red alert!

Things got difficult for TSV Hannover-Burgdorf in the handball Bundesliga on September 26, 2025: the team lost against HC Erlangen 26:32 (10:15). This defeat marks the fourth defeat in the sixth game of the season, which now catapults the warriors to 14th place in the table with just four points. The team knows that a rethink is urgently needed, especially with the next game, a cup duel against second division team TSV Bayer Dormagen, scheduled for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

The painful setback against Erlangen started early when TSV was behind 4:7 after 14 minutes. Despite several timeouts from Coach Prokop, who called for more variability in the offensive style of play, the hoped-for success did not materialize. The deficit grew to five goals at halftime. In the second half the warriors were even seven goals behind at times (15:22 in the 48th minute). A short intermediate sprint briefly raised hopes, but it was not possible to get any closer. The situation was further aggravated by the absence of national player Renars Uscins and the offensive defense of Erlangen, who, to make matters worse, scored two quick goals when they were outnumbered, which ultimately decided the game.

The best scorers of the game

In this mixed encounter, August Pedersen showed his skills and scored the most goals for Hannover-Burgdorf with 8/2 goals. Tissier (6 goals) and Fischer (4 goals) also contributed to the points tally. Bialowas stood out on Erlangen's side, playing a major role in his team's victory with 9 goals.

team Goals
Hanover Burgdorf Pedersen 8/2, Tissier 6, Fischer 4, Aho 3, Poulsen 2, Michalczik 1, Steinhauser 1, Weber 1
Erlangen Bialowas 9, Nissen 8, Metzner 5, Runarsson 3/2, Steinert 2, Överjordet 2, Buck 1, Gömmel 1, Willax 1

The spectators in the ZAG Arena, which amounted to 6,584 people despite the tense situation, had to wait disappointedly for the return to the top of the table. It remains to be seen whether the warriors can get back on track in the upcoming cup round against second division team TSV Bayer Dormagen in order to win back the support of their loyal fans.

A look into the history of the club

The roots of TSV Hannover-Burgdorf go back to 1922, when the Burgdorf Free Gymnastics Association was founded. Since the name was changed to TSV Hannover-Burgdorf Handball GmbH in 2005, the team has played in the Handball Bundesliga, better known as DIE RECKEN. Since 2005, home games have been played in the Swiss Life Hall or, increasingly due to spectator interest, in the ZAG Arena. The club has a loyal following and looks back on an eventful history that has continually reshaped it (Wikipedia).

The current season represents a challenge that the warriors have to tackle with commitment and team spirit in order to regain their footing in the league and gain the necessary self-confidence for the coming games. Whether the team can turn things around remains to be seen, but the cup always offers the opportunity to prove themselves anew.
