New apartments in Salzhausen: KWG is planning 230 more units!
In the quiet community of Salzhausen, in the Harburg district, a lot is happening in the area of social housing construction. The municipal housing association (KWG) has taken pioneering steps by building affordable housing. KWG was able to rent out its first new apartments in 2019 and has experienced impressive development since then. A total of around 250 residential units are now available, and plans include increasing the number to up to 700 residential units. Managing director Daniel Robionek has set clear goals to meet the increasing need for housing in the region, as the Landeszeitung reports.
The KWG, which was founded in 2017, has established itself as a joint project in which the Harburg district as well as nine of the twelve municipalities and the Sparkasse Harburg-Buxtehude are involved. Their main goal is to offer affordable housing in this growing region, although demand in Salzhausen is already very high. Joint municipal mayor Jens Köster emphasized that there is currently only one rental apartment available in the entire municipality.
Current construction project: topping-out ceremony celebrated
An exciting construction project is currently on the KWG agenda: an apartment building with twelve residential units is being built on the site of the former hospital. The topping-out ceremony was recently celebrated, which is an important sign of progress in social housing construction. The planned apartments will include modern two- and three-room apartments, most of which are barrier-free with an area of 45 to 72 square meters. The starting rent is an attractive 6.10 euros per square meter, and completion is scheduled for spring 2026.
KWG has a total of ten projects in the pipeline to meet the high demand. The next new building is already being planned at Lüneburger Straße 28 at the Lehrer-Haus location, which represents a further step in the housing offensive for the region.
Looking towards the future
The need to advance affordable housing construction has become increasingly urgent in recent years. The KWG's successful initiative shows that it is entirely possible to meet market demands while at the same time creating housing that takes into account both citizens' needs and financial possibilities. In Salzhausen it is clear that people always have a good hand when it comes to initiating new projects and thus enriching the living environment.
It remains to be seen how the KWG will develop further and what new projects are still to come. But one thing is certain: the initiative to promote social housing is a top priority in the region, and this is evident in the developments in Salzhausen.
