At around 8:30 p.m. the train came to a complete standstill near Helmstedt due to a technical defect. However, the comedy of the situation quickly disappeared when the passengers had to endure the darkness - the power on the train kept going out, which made the already unpleasant situation even worse. Despite the efforts of technicians to fix the problem on site, the train remained stuck on hold.
The wait only began to ease for the first time around 11:40 p.m., when Deutsche Bahn finally provided a replacement train and buses to transport the irate travelers. “We apologize for the significant delay and the inconvenience,” the railway said. However, it remained unclear what exactly led to the technical defect and how long passengers had to wait for their journey in total, as this was not explained in more detail in the official announcements from Deutsche Bahn.
