Ideas Expo 2024: Getting young talent fit for Lower Saxony!

The anticipation for the Ideas Expo 2024 is growing! From June 20th to 28th, 2024, the exhibition center in Hanover will become a hotspot for young people and aspiring skilled workers. The date, which was announced on the north bank of the Maschsee by Volker Schmidt, chairman of the supervisory board, has already made waves. The event not only stands for innovation and design, but also as a unique selling point for the state of Lower Saxony. Rundblick Niedersachsen reports that the Ideas Expo offers a platform to counteract the pressing shortage of skilled workers and to provide young people with orientation and career prospects.

Particularly pleasing: According to a study by the Allensbach opinion research institute, almost 80 percent of teenagers and young adults in Germany rate their future prospects as good or very good. Nevertheless, 16 percent rate their prospects as less positive. The survey was presented at the “Ideen-Expo” specialist congress and shows that MINT careers (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology) are definitely attractive for young people between 15 and 25. MINT careers in focus

STEM careers play a central role in the modern economy and are essential to advances in areas such as IT, engineering and medical technology. The shortage of skilled workers in these professions is seen as one of the biggest challenges, leading to production bottlenecks in many companies. Digital Institute highlights that close cooperation between educational institutions, politics and business is necessary in order to meet the need for qualified specialists. The use of new teaching methods and practice-oriented curricula is required in order to increase interest in MINT subjects.

The challenges are great, especially when you consider that only two MINT sectors are in the top 10 most popular career fields: computer science and mechanical and automotive engineering. Young people are increasingly leaning towards social professions and the media industry. This shows how important it is to make MINT careers more attractive for the young generation. Renate Töpfer, Managing Director of the Allensbach Institute for Demoscopy, appeals to MINT companies to improve their framework conditions and offer development opportunities in order to attract and retain talented young people in the long term.

Perspectives for the future

The importance of the Ideas Expo is also highlighted by companies like Strabag AG, which emphasize the need for committed young people to help shape the future. Christoph Humberg from MTU praises the Expo for making careers tangible and thus increasing interest in these exciting but often undervalued areas. It is therefore up to us to create new perspectives and show the necessary commitment.

Overall, it shows that the Ideas Expo 2024 is not just an event, but an important platform for everyone involved to address the challenges of the shortage of skilled workers in MINT professions and to prepare the next generations for their professional future. This initiative could be crucial to ensuring that we remain competitive on the international labor market in the future.
