Gas station robbery in Buxtehude: Police are looking for robbers with knives!

An attack in the tranquil town of Buxtehude is causing a stir: On September 10, 2025, around 4:30 a.m., a masked perpetrator entered a gas station and threatened the employees with a 25 to 30 centimeter long machete knife. This reports NDR. The robber obviously only wanted one thing: cigarettes. After an intensive search for the perpetrator, the police were initially unsuccessful.

The masked man, wearing a Venetian mask, went behind the counter when the employee didn't respond quickly enough. In total, he was able to take 10 to 15 cartons of cigarettes worth almost 1,200 euros and escaped with an eye-catching royal blue sports bag with wheels. Witnesses report that the perpetrator was around 1.75 to 1.80 meters tall and whose stature is described as slim to athletic. He was also between 25 and 35 years old and spoke in a deep, accent-free High German voice. Distinctive features include a prominent chin and full lips.

The search is ongoing

The police are asking the public for help. Anyone who can contribute to the identity of the perpetrator should call (04141) 102 328. The perpetrator was seen wearing clothing that included a Rastafarian striped hoodie, dark cargo pants, sneakers, a black face mask and orange work gloves. The search has so far been unsuccessful, so any information could be the decisive clue that leads to an arrest.

Interestingly, the current police crime statistics for 2024 show that robberies at gas stations are declining overall. Last year only 513 robberies were recorded, which is the lowest level since the reunification of Germany FTG Bonn emphasized. Nevertheless, the number of robberies increased after the end of the corona-related restrictions in 2022 and 2023. This leaves room for speculation about the reasons for the decline, but secured cash register systems and falling cash sales are the primary focus of the discussion.

Despite the positive statistical development, the fear of attacks remains. Increasing security at gas stations is an important step, but these robberies plague the industry and employees who often have to protect their jobs in dire situations. According to reports, the perpetrator's voice left an unsettling impression on those present. The police are now doing everything they can to find the perpetrator.

These incidents remind us of the increasingly dangerous situation facing retail. The attack in Buxtehude is not an isolated event and shows that even in quiet cities like this there is a zeitgeist that puts everyone on alert. Stay vigilant and report to the police to help prevent such incidents.
