Two seniors crash into a shop window: over 36,000 euros worth of damage!

In the Stade district, two drivers caused a stir on Monday when they crashed their vehicles into shop windows. The drivers, both 78 years old, had difficulty parking in different locations, driving over curbs and causing significant property damage.

The first incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. in the community of Dollern. A 78-year-old driver from Harsefeld was parking her Mercedes in front of a department store when she didn't stop in time and drove straight into the window. The collision resulted in the window breaking and damage to a shelf and the goods inside the store. The estimated material damage amounts to at least 18,000 euros, quite hefty for a parking attempt that was certainly well-intentioned. According to mopo.de, the driver and her passengers remained uninjured, but the Buxtehude fire department was alerted to check the statics of the building.

Another incident in Buxtehude

Almost two hours later, at 12:35 p.m., the second accident occurred in front of a furniture store in Buxtehude. A 78-year-old man had problems with his shoes while parking. Here too there was a mishap: He drove over the curb, broke through the shop window and finally stopped on a building pillar. Fortunately, there were no injuries in this incident, as ndr.de reported. Even though the driver and his 77-year-old passenger were uninjured, they were examined by emergency services as a precaution. The estimated material damage in this case is also not negligible and amounts to at least 18,000 euros.

Although both drivers were examined to determine their driving ability, no impairments were found. The police have started investigations in both cases to clarify the exact circumstances of the driving errors. What is certain is that the shop windows will now cost a large amount of money - and all without the associated “shopping experience”.

Thursday will certainly be remembered, especially because of these incidents. It shows once again that when parking and driving you always need a keen eye and a solid feeling for the width of your own body.
