Lower Saxony premiere: Sirens Call - A radical film adventure!

An exciting event is coming up: the Lower Saxony premiere of the film “Sirens Call” will bring a breath of fresh air to the Cologne film scene. On August 26, 2025, the cinematic world will face the questions of identity and belonging. Directed by Miri Ian Gossing and Lina Sieckmann, a true documentary-feature film hybrid was created that takes the viewer on an emotionally charged journey.

“Sirens Call” tells the story of the mermaid Una, who sets out from New York to Portland to discover the roots of her people, who once lived in harmony with humans. On her way she meets the nonbinary Moth, with whom she can identify. The plot provides insight into Una's inner conflicts as she feels increasingly lost in the human society she wants to get to know better. The film explores self-empowerment, caring and political activism and was shot on 16mm film stock - a real treat for cinephiles.

Festival appearances and awards

“Sirens Call” has already been presented at renowned festivals such as the Berlinale 2025 and FIDMarseille 2025. These platforms not only provide space for exciting films, but also promote the visibility of topics such as non-binarity and diversity. As viewers follow Una's journey, a greater understanding of the complexity of identities is created.

Connecting the plot to current society is particularly important these days. The campaign “So diverse is non-binary!”, initiated by TGNS, shows how diverse and varied the world is. Running across Instagram and the TGNS website, it aims to raise awareness of non-binary identities and provide workplace support for trans and non-binary people.

A look at the film festivals

The Berlin Lesbian Non-Binary Film Festival, which is dedicated to the visibility of lesbian and non-binary as well as trans* and inter* perspectives, regularly presents a diverse range of works. A special program was put together for 2020, showing films such as “CHANGING THE GAME” and “I AM ANASTASIA”. This festival aims to create a safe space for the community and is always a highlight in the calendar of many film enthusiasts.

With the upcoming premiere of “Sirens Call,” an exciting time lies ahead, not only for the filmmakers and actors, but also for everyone who would like to warmly engage with the topics of identity and society. The more we learn about ourselves and others, the closer we come to harmonious coexistence.

In any case, we can look forward to a captivating film evening that is both thought-provoking and entertaining.
