2,000 euros for grieving children: Lutom receives important support!

An important step was recently taken in Northeim to support grieving children and young people. As part of the “BaHaMa” summer festival, the Schnittger company presented a check for 2,000 euros to the Lutom facility, which specializes in grief support for young people. Melanie Kallwitz, Angelika Köhler and Susanne Lenkewitz accepted the check on behalf of Lutom. Lenkewitz emphasized the importance of such donations: “Any help is important to support children and young people in the most difficult times,” said the committed representative.

Daniel Wenzel, Managing Director of Schnittger, emphasized that social commitment is very important to the company. “It is essential to support institutions like Lutom that help young people in emotional crises,” explained Wenzel. The raffle at the summer festival is not only aimed at having fun, but also at raising awareness of the regional commitment to social projects.

Coping with grief in children

Coping with grief for children and young people is an often underestimated topic. The loss of a parent or sibling can be a huge shock for little ones. The Lacrima project, which is active nationwide in cities such as Augsburg, Hamburg and Munich, offers appropriate support. It was founded to give grieving children and young people hope for a future worth living. Here the youngest children can share and process their grief, often through playful activities such as painting or running around - completely different to how adults do it.

In regular group lessons, the children experience rituals that help them sort out their feelings. The exchange in the group shows: you are not alone. Lacrima not only supports children, but also offers advice and seminars for relatives. Financial support can make a big difference here: 20 euros can provide around an hour of art therapy, while 100 euros can provide a child with a month in a grief group.

Burdens of grief

The importance of support during this sensitive time is also clear in the offers of the German Red Cross (DRK). Children and young people in particular are under immense pressure during a death in the family. They not only have to deal with their own pain, but also experience the grief of the entire family. Jens Burkschat, a volunteer grief counselor at the DRK Versmold, experienced a stroke of fate two years ago and would like to help others who cannot find their way in similar situations. The DRK offers a child and youth grief group to help young people process their grief and avoid negative behavioral changes that can occur if grief is not dealt with.

Initiatives such as Lutom, Lacrima and the DRK impressively show how important it is to offer support to affected families.### They open up a space in which children not only deal with their grief, but also learn that they are not alone in difficult times. People from the region, whether private or business, are asked to support this valuable commitment through donations and thus set an example.
