Oldenburg gets a new meeting place: Project Topia starts soon!
Something is really happening in the theater sector in Oldenburg! On October 8th and 11th, Theater k is hosting two information meetings that invite citizens to take part in an exciting new project: “Topia”. This innovative project, which draws on the memories of missing places such as the Wallkino, is intended to create a new meeting place that is all about community. Mathilda Kochan, one of those responsible for the theater, particularly emphasizes the positive aspects of the memories and emphasizes how important it is to incorporate them into the design of the new location. Anyone interested, regardless of background or experience, is welcome to get involved - no previous experience in the theater is necessary. You can easily register for the information meetings, which take place at 6 p.m. and 11 a.m. at Bahnhofstrasse 11, by email ( theater-k@kulturetage.de ).
As with the newly founded Citizens' Stage Oldenburg, BüBü for short, the aim of the “Topia” project is to offer city residents a platform. Here you can participate in the development of documentary pieces on socially relevant topics. The group strives to promote unbiased interaction and to make residents experts in their everyday lives. The focus is not only on the participants, but also on the viewers, who can gain new perspectives on their own city through the pieces created. The program is designed in such a way that a different topic and ensemble is dealt with every year. The extremely relevant topic of “drinking” is currently being addressed in the 2023/2024 season.
Utopia as a concept in the theater
The term “utopia” plays a central role in what Theater k is planning. It's not just about designing a new place, but also about creating a space of possibility that looks beyond the usual. The concept of utopia, which emerged in the theater, describes a vision of an ideal state - far away from everyday worries and norms. Viewed in a larger context, the discussion of utopias is deepened through numerous contributions, such as in the volume “Utopia in Theater, Performance and Action”. This is about using theater as a space for change and for reflecting on social conditions. Aesthesis emphasizes that the scenic negotiations not only think about the future, but also transform the here and now into a place of possibilities.
As the developments at Theater k unfold, audiences can also look forward to further exciting performances. “A Winter’s Tale” is on the program from November 28th, followed by “Fräulein Braun” in January and an inclusive theater project “In the Dark” in February. April concludes with “Included Society.” The new direction of the theater envisages creative interaction between citizens and experienced theater makers and thus aims to bridge the gap between audience and actors.
