Osnabrück Migration Center celebrates 10 years of successful integration!
A remarkable anniversary was celebrated in Osnabrück on June 18, 2025: The Migration Center looks back on ten years of successful integration work. Around 100 guests came together at a festive event in the district hall to mark this special occasion. The migration center, which was founded in 2015, was originally dedicated to the integration of EU citizens. Over the years, the focus expanded to supporting refugees from countries such as Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine, and has since successfully placed over 950 people into the job market. As OS Radio reports, this is a real milestone for the region.
A core part of the work of the migration center is the individual support of people with a history of immigration. The center is also an important part of MaßArbeit kAöR, the municipal job center in the Osnabrück district. We work regularly with the immigration authorities and the integration officer to create individual perspectives for education, training and work. This is done through a broad network of partners from authorities, charities and business organizations, all of whom work together to promote social and professional integration. According to Niedersachsen grabt an, the development of individual perspectives for those affected is of great importance.
Integration into the labor market
A particularly important goal of the migration center is to make it easier for refugees to access the labor market. The last year and a half has been characterized by increasing demand, especially due to the many refugees who have come to Germany, mainly from Ukraine. In addition to quick access to the labor market, they also benefited from comprehensive SGB II services, which include information, German courses and labor market policy support. As on the website of BMAS described, the integration course system has been significantly expanded: over 100,000 Ukrainians have already completed integration courses. It is repeatedly emphasized how important linguistic integration is for successful integration into the labor market.
The migration center also offers various services such as initial orientation, professional recognition and support services after entering the labor market. Networking with economic development and other specialist agencies ensures that the programs are tailored to the needs of the community. However, the heart of integration remains language training, which is carried out in collaboration with several educational providers.
Future prospects
Another key element for rapid integration is the rapid recognition of foreign qualifications. This is important in order to be able to use the skills of refugees effectively. In addition, close cooperation between the various institutional actors ensures better coordination of integration measures. Regular consultations for the participants accompany the integration process, as BMAS emphasizes.
In the ten years of its existence, the Osnabrück Migration Center has established itself as a reliable partner in integration work. The review impressively shows how important such institutions are for society, as well as the necessary support that immigrants need to find their way in their new home. Given the current challenges of migration, the work of the Migration Center is more important than ever and will continue to play a key role in the future.
