Future vision for Salzgitter: Citizens help shape the city's development!

A lot is happening in Salzgitter: the city administration has it Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK) 2025 updated to advance the city's strategic development. The focus is on urban renewal areas and the transformation of the historic industrial location. The aim is to position Salzgitter as a child- and family-friendly learning city and at the same time promote green and open space design.

Citizens have the opportunity to actively participate in the planning process. With over 2,200 participants and 443 ideas submitted, the summer was an extensive event Online survey successfully implemented. This open platform allowed citizens to submit their suggestions on an interactive city map, easily and without registration.

District workshops invite you to get involved

A crucial next step is the district workshops, which will take place in November. Anyone interested is warmly invited to participate in the planning personally and to contribute their ideas and suggestions. The dates at a glance:

The central topics include adapting to new requirements and creating potential focus areas in Lebenstedt, Thiede, Gebhardshagen and Salzgitter-Bad.

Long-term perspectives and challenges

Looking into the future, the increase in population that has been observed since 2015 is a further incentive to precisely control urban development. Forecasts expect further growth until 2034, which will require appropriate measures. The ISEK update is being accompanied by the city office planning group on behalf of the city of Salzgitter.

In addition, there are supporting research projects that deal with the design and organization of the implementation phase of integrated urban development concepts. These works, accompanied by the Federal Institute for Building, Urban and Spatial Research, are dedicated to examining strategies for success, barriers and best practices in urban development.

It remains exciting to see how Salzgitter will develop in the coming years. The voices of citizens are important: their ideas and suggestions could make a decisive contribution to making the city an even better place to live.
