Passengers planning to travel towards Hamburg on Sunday evening, October 19th, should be prepared for longer journey times. The reason for this is construction work on the tracks between Stade and Neugraben, which means that buses will be used instead of the regular S-Bahn from Sunday, around 9 p.m. to Monday, 1 a.m. This reports that Daily newspaper.
However, the restrictions are not just limited to this weekend. Further construction work on the S5 has already been announced for Monday, October 27th to Tuesday, October 28th and from Tuesday until the end of operations. Passengers also have to expect restrictions on the RE5 route between Stade and Cuxhaven until October 30th. On Friday, October 17, some trains will be canceled in the morning and evening hours, while all-day restrictions will apply on Saturday and Sunday.
Train cancellations and changes
Looking ahead, passengers will have to adapt to various changes. From Monday, October 20th to Wednesday, October 23rd, there will be cancellations and different travel times between Cadenberge and Cuxhaven in the morning and evening hours. Train cancellations between Stade and Cuxhaven are again expected on Thursday, October 24th. Changes to travel times on the RE5 route have been announced for Friday, October 25th in the morning hours. Further timetable changes and train cancellations are possible from the last week of October, particularly on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th October.
But that's not all: The Hamburg transport authority has also informed about various restrictions. The S-Bahn lines S1 and S2 will have to switch to buses from October 18th to November 2nd, which applies between Berliner Tor and Billwerder Moorfleet. The subway lines U1, U2 and U3 are currently experiencing significant restrictions, while the S5 in Harburg will be affected until July 31, 2026 due to the renovation of the ZOB.

Not to be forgotten is the construction work in Berlin, like that S-Bahn Berlin reports. Here, S-Bahn traffic between Gesundbrunnen and Bornholmer Straße and between Nordbahnhof and Gesundbrunnen will be suspended from October 16th, around 4 a.m. to October 20th, around 1:30 a.m. Passengers are asked to inform themselves in good time about the alternative services offered and to reschedule if necessary.
