Bienenbüttel: Primary school gets urgently needed extension!
There is a lot happening in Bienenbüttel when it comes to education! The primary school extension is just around the corner. Architect Hans-Heinrich Weichsel presented the design to the building committee, and the plans are promising. The need for additional learning and play spaces has existed for a long time, as headmistress Silke Beckmann emphasizes. A more than pressing concern that is now being addressed.
The plan is for construction to begin in spring 2026, after the building application is due to be submitted in December 2025. The responsible authorities are hoping for a building permit by February 2026. Until then, a working group from local politicians, schools and administration will be actively involved in further optimizing the preliminary draft, which was originally drawn up at the end of 2020.
Extensive plans for more space
The new addition will expand the southern wing of the existing school building to the west. A large and a small group room as well as a classroom on the ground floor are to be built on a generous 276 square meters. Another classroom is planned on the upper floor, which will provide a valuable addition to teaching. This is intended to strengthen inclusion, as spaces for differentiation are also provided.
A special highlight is the planned photovoltaic system on the pent roof. This should not only protect the environment, but also reduce costs for later use. In addition, an escape bridge ensures rapid evacuation in an emergency - safety aspects also play a central role in the new design.
Financing and funding opportunities
Around 1.5 million euros are to be raised for the construction, although financing represents a small challenge. Initially, funding of 900,000 euros was approved, but the red-green state government reduced this amount to 292,000 euros. However, the municipality plans to seek additional funding to offset the costs and move the project forward.
However, the funding landscape provides many options. According to a report from the funding blog, there are numerous public and private organizations that support educational projects. Whether early childhood education or political education projects – the spectrum is wide and with it the chances of securing the necessary funds. The ongoing search for funding could shed light on the matter, as many programs start on a first-come, first-served basis after February 1, 2026.
With a positive decision, the municipality could now take a big step towards improving the educational infrastructure. The decision-makers are correspondingly optimistic and hope not only for the community, but also that the necessary funds will be made available in a timely manner.
The project is beginning to take shape and the educational offerings in Bienenbüttel could soon be expanded - a real reason for joy for students, teachers and parents!
