Eichen-Apotheke in Oyten closes: What does that mean for customers?
There will soon be changes in the local pharmacy landscape in Oyten. After more than 55 years, Eichen-Apotheke will close its doors at the end of this month. This decision is not entirely unexpected, but it is influenced by various circumstances that significantly influenced operational management. According to that Weser courier The closure was not planned, but personnel problems, a significant decline in the number of customers and the challenges posed by the e-prescription led to this step.
The Eichen-Apotheke was recently only frequented by around 80 customers per day, which represents a drastic difference compared to the Flora-Apotheke, which serves around 400 customers every day. The Flora pharmacy, which is only a few hundred meters from the town hall, will be the only pharmacy in Oyten. For Flora Pharmacy, this also offers an opportunity for expansion and improvement. Svenja Reimann, who has been running the Flora pharmacy since 2020 and has also taken over the Eichen pharmacy, is planning extensive renovations. In the future, it will be increased from four to six cash registers, and a new picking machine will make work processes more efficient.
A difficult market environment
The decision to close the Eichen-Apotheke is also a reaction to the major changes in the market. The introduction of e-prescriptions in particular caused major problems. Delays in releasing the health card made it difficult to provide the usual fast service. In addition, the location on Oytener Boulevard turned out to be less than advantageous, which led to a noticeable loss of customers.
However, before the Eichen Pharmacy closes, temporary arrangements for the supply of medication will remain in place. As long as the Flora Pharmacy is undergoing renovation work, a courier service will continue to be offered, which will operate for four hours in the afternoon. The Eichen-Apotheke customers are therefore not suddenly left without supplies.
View of the Flora Pharmacy

The investments in the renovation measures are intended not only to increase customer frequency, but also to optimize the service for the Oyten population.
